Just Thinking Out Loud!

“A Filipino’s View on his Surroundings”

Working During The Holidays

I just got my schedule for the next couple of months! :D .  Financially it’s going to be great!  :D .  But when it comes to relationships it sucks :( .

You see I’m scheduled to work at 3pm to 12MN this December.  It was ok.  Granted that I’d be at work this Christmas, but I’ll be out at midnight and I can still rush to go home on time to celebrate Noche Buena.  But I forgot that at 24/7 Customer Philippines Inc.  Schedules change EVERY FOUR WEEKS, not bad if you think about it.  I can definitely live with it.  But has faith would have it…  I’ll be scheduled to work from 7 pm to 4 am starting on December 29.  Yikes!  First time in all my call center life that I’ll spending New Year Eve at work.  I’ll be lucky to swap schedules ( yes!  we can do that) with someone because of the festivities.  I tried to avail a vacation leave for Dec. 31st.  But you have to qualify for it.  You may ask what’s the qualifications?  Nothing much but PERFECT ATTENDANCE from the date you started in the same year.  PERFECT ATTENDANCE which as all call center employees know is one the most very difficult thing to do.  No absences can be done by any sane person, but lates and tardy?  That I can’t promise.  I don’t know why, but only a handful of individuals can actually manage to get perfect attendances.  It’s not really that hard to do, but still…………………….

I already told my wife about it, and she’s not crazy about the idea but what can she do?  She knows that it’s a critical workday (workdays that Attendance is an absolute must!)  So there’s just no way around it.  Maybe I’ll get lucky and get some lowlife to swap with me.  But then again…..wishful thinking. :D

But I’m not losing hope!  Besides it will be an experience!

  2. I’ve spent a couple of Christmas and New Year’s eve at the office (haven’t done so in the past 4 years though), it’s an experience to see and hear fireworks outside while you’re tied up to the phone talking to a customer!

You’ll survive though and I’m sure your company will have some ‘comfort foods’ to get you through the night. =)

    Happy Holidays!

  4. attendance? nakow… :) yan ang aking achilles heel. asa pa akong maka perkek atendance ako.. di pa natapos ang isang buong work year, naubos na lahat ng leaves ko. hahaha.
Anyhoo… na experience ko nang magtrabaho ng new year’s eve… i was expecting na medyo petiks kami kasi of magbabagong taon… xempre holiday din yon… kaso… wala atang concept of holiday tong mga to… mapa pasko man o mapa new year, tumatawag… hindi nga gumigreet… nang aaway pa… me tatanong pang “Why are you working on a new year’s day?”. Ulol ka ba? Of course, kasi tumatawag kayo… buzz kill much?
But anyway, we can’t complain… free food… dagdag sahod… as for fireworks? well, banned yan sa davao… huhuhuhu… pero masaya pa rin… :)
