Wikipedia.org: A Researcher’s Angel
I love to read. My day is not complete if haven’t read anything of significance. It may something about sports, politics or movies. Sometimes when I really have no choice I’ll read something about showbiz (but that doesn’t happen very often). But most of the time I would just go to Wikipedia.org and choose any subject that I fancy. For those who doesn’t know anything about wikipedia it is an online encyclopedia which can be edited by anyone, even you! I discovered this website while browsing to another information based site How Stuff Works, they had an article on how Wikipedia works, after reading the article I visit it and got hook instantly. It has lots articles on almost all subjects! They have history, TV, Movies, politics and animation they even have articles concerning adult related subjects like pornography, BDSM and GLBT. All the inforamtion I want right at my finger tips.
When I’m online and go to this website, I can spend as much as 8 hours on it, just reading articles. It was almost a year before I started to write my own articles, and I’m proud to say that one of the articles that I wrote about has been featured already. The best part about it is that just in case you ran out of resources, you can just simply leave the article for awhile, and when you return somebody may have already copy edited it for you, even added more information on the article itself! That’s the beauty of this website. You can collaborate with many people to make sure that your facts are straight. Which really bothered me before. So I usually cross-reference it with other information found on the web.
I remember spending hours in the library during college just to look for the correct material for a paper that I ‘m working on. Imagine having this king of technology when I was in college it could’ve guaranteed a Dean’s listing” for me. But during that time, only dial-up was available, and very slow. I remember the time that I rent a computer for internet access for 1 hour, and It almost took that time just to get your email. But not today. In an hour I can actually get two articles 3 if I read fast. SO information is fast to acquire.
Try it yourself visit the wikipedia website and read to your hearts content. Who knows? You may be tempted to write an article your self.
