“A Filipino’s View on his Surroundings”

Fast Food Delays

This often happen to me, specially when I’m in a hurry. I would go to a fast food joint, then order something on their menu. The crew member would then say to my horror “Sir, Are you willing to wait ten minutes?” Of couse not, so I will desperately try to find something in the menu that can be available right away. Usually I can find one, but sometimes it just wasn’t my day. Jollibee inside the Export Bank Plaza in Gil Puyat Ave. is sickly notorious in this. What a bummer!

There also times when I ordered a value meal, an order of a hamburger, a soda and fries. The crew would only give me my fries and drink, then promise to deliver the hamburger in 5 minutes. So I ate my fries slowly, hoping that fries would last until the burger arrive. I ate and ate one piece at a time. After ten or fifteen minutes I would follow up on my order only to find out that the crew who took my order forgot to inform the kitchen about my order, this happened to me three times already in McDonald’s at their branch along the corner of Gil Puyat Ave. and chino Roces Avenue. When this happens I would usually ask for a manager, tell him my situation then ask for a refund. They will just usually refund the price of the burger since; I already ate the fries and drink.

Everytime this happen to me I would always tell the manager that you restaurant is really a “fast food” chain. And I say that with as much sarcasm that I can muster. These people have the gall to open up a franchise of a well known fast food restaurant then destroy the image of that company due to lousy service. And the only restaurant that has always satisfy me in terms of service is Tropical Hut Hamburgers. Now this is a model fast food service restaurant. Meal arrives always on time, and always piping hot! I might add. Too bad it’s not as well known to some kids these days, they really need to step up on advertising and promotions.

That’s why my wife and I would usually eat in a regular restaurant when we’re dining together. I would rather talked to my wife and wait for the food, rather than complain to the manager while my wife is sitting and waiting for me to finish my latest barrage of complains to the manager. At least these restaurants would approach you (sometimes) if the meal will be delay.

Fast food restaurants are a dime a dozen these days, But do the owners of Jollibee and McDonald’s know this kind of un-quality service is happening to their branches? I hope not, because if they do and they didn’t do something about it, then these scenarios will become a standard in fast food service in the Philippines.

  1. Super Notorious talaga Jollibee dyan sa export bank. Yung manager nga mismo mali-maling pagkain nabibigay e. Crew pa kaya?

  2. I think because they recruit crew members that are either too young or undertrained. Being a crew member is hard work, standing all day and walking to and fro. Sad most of these people are in probi status and I wonder where they can get the passion to deliver quality customer service.
